Sloan 3.5!

Last Monday we celebrated Sloan's "Half Birthday" by taking her out to dinner and letting her have a cookie. I even surprised her with a ring pop. Sure it was from her Halloween Stash that has long been forgotten, but she doesn't need to know this. She was so grateful that i had brought her a gift. I love her heart.

Sloan is such a joy to our lives. She is lively and vibrant, and incredibly smart, thoughtful, sensitive, and even a bit sassy at times. She knows when she is being funny, and will sometimes push the limits, but this is what makes her Sloan.

Sloan loves to play make believe. She has so much fun playing with the dolls she got for Christmas and role playing with them.
I often come downstairs to hear her playing quietly with them. Talking to herself as they save the day. She painted a golden egg for the treasure and we are working on painting Dopey, Sneezy, and the Wicked step mother disguised as the witch with the apple. (shown below is our work in progress) I am letting sloan help me, which takes a bit of grace since I am a perfectionist and i realize her hands are not quite steady enough to paint the intricate designs and faces. However, she realizes this and has me help her paint them. I also have extra wooden dolls so while I work on the characters, she is able to make her own people, which she thoroughly enjoys.

Sloan's brother Max came out to visit for a week. It was nice since we haven't seen Max since July 2013. The visit was wonderful and the two of them made some good memories. He is a great big brother to have and I think he enjoyed being around the babies just as much as they enjoyed being around him. He even wrapped Sloan up in his 12' long Dr. Who scarf that he got for Christmas, and took her picture.

Sloan does a great job working independently and can complete a 36 piece puzzle on her own, and with help, a 48 piece puzzle that I believe she will be able to do alone soon enough.
Sloan also is working on her scissor skills and can cut out shapes and then tape them together. The cold weather is really helping us to think outside the box in terms of what activities we can do as you can see our art box strewn across the floor.

Sloan's favorite activity is still painting.

When she draws people, she has also started drawing on the back of the paper. "Mommy, these are mine and daddy's bottoms!"

Sloan does not wish to grow up. Nor does she wish to move away and become a grown up. She did express her desire to drive so that she could take me to my favorite restaurant, Sushi Thai. However, if she does have to grow up, Sloan would like to be a doctor but would also like to wash dishes. She also tells me that she will take care of Piper when she is older, but has started to realize that Piper will also be growing along with her.

Today Sloan told me her favorite food was broccoli and second is tomatoes.   If you ask her how old she is, she is emphatically, 3 and a HALF!

Her favorite game at school is playing Elsa with her friends. She also likes to do this at home in our yard.

Sloan can spell a few words. Her name and POP (like the bird popped the balloon). She knows what sounds the letters make and can usually identify the letter that makes a certain sound. She is on the right track for sure.

Sloan can also count to 19 most of the time. I haven't really worked with her on this until lately once I realized that at age 3 she was still stuck at 12 usually followed by 14, 17  and so on. So we have worked on it and now she can tell me the numbers to follow 12 up to 19. Because it's not a big deal I haven't stressed it too much, but have taken note to work on this with her, just because I am a teacher at heart, and math is my specialty.

Sloan also is currently enrolled in a ballet class.  It is pretty small, but she enjoys the teacher and remembers the moves from week to week.
At Christmas time, Sloan's class had a music production. They sang Rudolph, Up on the Housetop, Dreidel song, Jingle Bells, Felize Navidad, Santa Clause is coming to town, and Must be Santa. (i might have missed one) Sloan ran over to me after the first song and proclaimed loudly, MOMMY, we made COOKIES with SPRINKLES!!!! She then went right back to her spot. Everyone found it quite funny. (there were three classes in there at the same time)

We also took the girls to see Frozen on Ice the first week in December. It was awesome. It snowed inside. And of all the Disney on Ice's that Rick has seen, he said this one was by far the best!
Frozen on Ice was a huge hit!
Sloan loves holding Piper on the sofa and keeping her from falling off.

Here are a few funnies:

Mommy, that truck is just a head! He doesn't have a body!!  (i finally see it in my rear view - It was a semi without the cargo)

Mommy, can i have some more cool-up? (cool whip at Thanksgiving on her pie)

Mommy, i can't turn the opening gog (door knob)

The other day at lunch, I let Sloan have a cookie and she chose one with M&M's. When we saw Rick that evening, we told him about the cookie. I said, "Sloan chose the one with M&M's" She corrected me, "No Mommy, they were 'Nim and Nims' " She really put emphasis on the "N" sound :)

And my all time favorite: "Look mommy, somebody glittered" (there was trash on the ground!)

Look at how much our sweet baby girl has changed!

Merry Christmas!

A few weeks ago, along with a large part of the world, we celebrated Christmas. It was the first magical christmas for Sloan as she woke up aware that Santa came. WE didnt 'need to remind her this year.  She even went to bed without so much as a peep. Santa can't come if i don't go to sleep, so everyone, go to sleep! And she fell asleep immediately!

It was actually really cute, she woke up on Christmas morning singing, "You better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout i'm telling you why, Santa Clause is coming to town" followed by "You know, Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen, Coment and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen" I then chimed in, Good MOrning Sloan, Merry Christmas. She replied, "Is Santa here?" I asked her to come into our room. She sat on the bed all starry eyed, excited to go downstairs and see if Santa came! Did she make the nice list?
I would say so!

Santa brought sloan a wooden castle and asked me to make some dolls for her castle. I painted the Incredibles, cinderella, Elsa, Anna, Ariel, Snow White, Kristoff, Sven, Olaf, Belle, Charlie Brown and a few others. They were a hit! and Sloan and i are now working on the seven dwarfs!

Sloan got a few puzzles and books, hair bows, an Elsa barbie doll, a Hello Kitty night light, wooden blocks, a baby doll, and a few movies. Probably some other small things that have escaped my mind right now.  Oh, a grover puppet, which was the only thing that she asked Santa for. The rest she said, I just want one surprise, so shhhh.

She really enjoyed playing with her new castle and blocks and would have been very happy with just that.

Piper got a few baby dolls, an activity table, a few teethers. Sensory balls from her sister. Some books. and a few hair bow bands . Plus any of the miscellaneous things you see lying around.

Both girls got matching sweaters and socks. Sloan got a few tshirts (Snoopy, Elsa, Elsa and Anna, and Olaf)

Christmas night, the entire Sloan family gathered, as usual, and we took this great photo! Rick and i wore the same color by mistake, sloan is with my dad, and Piper is too interested in the babies in front of her. Ah... there's always next year. At least my kid wasn't the one picking her nose front and center, At least not this year. We keep adding babies to the mix. I think this year (2015) we will all take a break from adding any more. At least for this year.

Happy new year :) That wasn't too late was it?

Sweet P: Eight Months old!

I cannot believe that in four short months Piper will be ONE!  She is the most adorable baby. Loves to make us laugh and will get your attention if you are not paying her any by shrieking at you and hitting the surface in front of her.  She loves to stare her daddy down for his attention, and gets so excited when he comes home from work.

Piper likes to cuddle but will let you know when she is all done and ready to get down on the floor to play.
Piper can wave Hi and Bye and will say Bye Bye. She says Mama a lot of the time, and will also say Dada, but usually just "Da" and "Ma".   She likes to pretend laugh and cough. She will mimic you and sometimes she bites me just to hear me scream so she can scream back. It's a play bite and doesn't really hurt. But she is really funny. I am enjoying her playfulness and sense of humor. She also grabs my face and pulls me in for a "kiss". It's more of an open mouth slobber but they have to start somewhere. She also says what sounds like I love You. I believe it to be :)

Piper loves to watch the dog and seeing Ellie jump to get a toy makes her laugh.  Piper's top teeth are very close to coming through. I am hoping to see them this month. The corner of the top right one is starting to break the skin! Teething is such a drawn out process!

Piper cruises the furniture and pulls up on everything. She pushes toys across the floor, walking on her knees or feet.
She can also clap her hands! I put on a short video of "Shaun the Sheep" and Piper clapped when it came on. It was just too cute. She also is starting to wiggle her fingers when she waves.

Piper is just under 23 pounds. She lost a bit of weight over the holidays as she had an ear infection turned double ear infection and was quite sick for several days with a fever. She was mostly on a liquid (milk) diet and is now refusing to eat pureed food. Piper only wants to feed herself and she does it well. I am impressed that her fine motor skills are just as good as her gross motor skills.  Speaking of gross motor, Piper likes to pull up and then let go and try to stand. It doesn't always end well, but can stand for a mere second before falling down. She lowers herself to her knees when she is moving between standing and crawling to the next object and is usually very good about getting up and down without falling.

Piper also has a bit of a temper. She was up late with Rick and myself the other night and I had a bowl of carrots and a few potato chips in the bowl. She grabbed one of each and got very mad when i set the bowl down and took her chips away. I tried replacing them with something else but she was not to be fooled. When I put the bowl back into her reach, her tears stopped. We are going to be in for it with this one, but I think this was evident at birth.

Milestones include her First Christmas!

Piper enjoyed her new stocking and dolls. She received 2 manhattan toy dolls in snuggle pods. A few teethers (her favorite is the banana toothbrush), a few books, and an activity table! She also celebrated her first Christmas with a 103.2 fever! Poor baby was sick for a few days.

Piper is also learning to drink from a cup and insists upon holding it with one hand. Needless to say she did spill the cup after I took this picture.

Spending quality time with her grandparents:

Cousin Carter LOVED to hold the baby!

Piper is such a joy in our home. I love having her around and am excited as i watch her personality grow and watch the girls interact. They already play like sisters (the good and the bad)

Like i really gave her a coke to drink, but the cold felt so good on her gums!
