Under the Sea: Mermaid Party

Since sloan loves the little mermaid, we threw a Mermaid Party for her. I did not use the little mermaid exclusively because I am a fan of all mermaids.

We threw the party from 10am - 12pm. I'll let the pictures tell the story.
Sloan's teachers made her some signs that we used on the front door to our home.

Upon arrival, Sloan handed out a mermaid tail. I made one for each child; WE also had eye patches for the boys who didn't want a tail. The blue tail was for sloan. I made 12 green tails. Even piper wore one. I also made myself a mermaid skirt and Sloan a mermaid skirt with individual scales! We will try to wear these more than once!

Candy Sushi:

I also made "crab leg" carrots, celery, "sea" cucumbers, and fruit salad.

Crab Croissants, chicken salad and pb&j.

The fun:

There was also a wooden crab craft station (where you can look through the crab) for the kids to make and take home. I didn't catch a picture but you can see in this one:

We filled the room with blue and white balloons. "Life is the Bubbles". The kids had a great time running around with each other. All of the children are Sloan's classmates (or were at one time), and all of the parents work together or have a spouse that does, which made for a fun party since most everyone knew one another.

The party even made it's way into Sloan's room

Cupcake time!

Piper enjoyed all the sweet cuddles:

Sneaky girl wanting to open her gifts!

My friend Amy made a collage of the day and sent it to me.

Our big gift to sloan is always her party, but this bicycle comes in a close second! I sure do enjoy celebrating my children and doing whatever I can to make their childhoods the best they can be!

Happy THIRD Birthday Sloan Violet!!!

Sloan is now three years old. I did a photoshoot with our camera when we were at the beach last week. I think they turned out ok.

Per tradition, she woke up on the morning of the 19th to a room full of balloons!

Sloan has a vivid imagination and is so creative. She loves to sing and often makes up her own songs. She also likes to paint and can now paint people. For a three year old, her artistic abilities are quite impressive. She also likes to dance, loves going to church and often wants to go multiple times a week.

Sloan does't pronounce her "Vs" or "Rs" all the time. She knows her ABCs but glazes over the "LMNOP" making it more of a sound "L...P". She will tell you her name is "Sloan Biolet". As for the "R" sound, it's more of a "W", unless it is at the end of a word, so while she can say Piper, she cannot say Prize. It's more like Pwize.

Sloan can put away her clothes after I do laundry. She can dress herself though will sometimes ask for help. She helps to clear the dinner table and will get her own plate and can even get out a cup and fill it with water for herself. Sloan likes to swim and can jump off the diving board or go down the water slide, and swim all the way to the wall, though she prefers to have someone wait for her so that she can swim to them and then to the wall or ladder. All of this is done without any floats.  Sloan also likes to play chase and spin around.
Sloan loves the ocean but has a healthy appreciation for the strength of the waves and sticks to the shallow water.

Sloan's favorite food is broccoli and I have just learned that as a child, it was also my favorite food. She likes to eat cashews and loves candy as most children do. She also likes celery, carrots, and apples. Sloan is a very good eater and will eat most everything or at least try it once. Sloan likes to eat sushi (raw Salmon) when I feel like sharing with her.

Sloan's favorite song changes between "Let it Go", "Build a Snowman," and "Part of that World".

Sloan's favorite Color is purple. Upon asking today, her favorite movie is "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", but I think we have watched "The Little Mermaid" the most, and "Frozen" second to that. We have a huge collection of Disney movies, but those are the most watched, the others (Up, Tangled, Brave, Incredibles, Aladdin, Lion King, Monsters Inc, Lorax, and Finding Nemo) just to name a few. We don't watch too much TV, but she does like this show on Netflix called Bernard. It has no words, but really makes her laugh. He's a silly bear. She also likes Pooey the bear (Winnie the Pooh), Daniel Tiger, and on occasion we will watch an episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse or Doc McStuffins.

Sloan likes to play with her dollhouse and her kitchen. We make a lot of paintings and I use them as wrapping paper for birthday parties.

Sloan is a very sweet and appreciative girl. She is grateful for everything we give her, big or small. She thanks the person who prepared her food almost every meal. She helps to clear the table and put dishes into the dishwasher.

Sloan is so funny and is good at deflecting a situation in which she might be getting into trouble by making us laugh. We often find ourselves biting our tongues as to not give in to her antics.  She is both silly through her facial expressions, and witty. For example, Rick might say, "Sloan do you know what will happen if you disobey?" and she might reply, "I get some candy?" and then give a quick bat of her eyes and flash a big smile. Sometimes I will try to be stern with her and she will just smile at me and through gritted (smiling) teeth say, "SMILE MOMMY".

Sloan likes to ask questions and recently asked the following:

"Mommy, why don't our ears turn backwards?"

"Mommy, do bad-guys have Jesus in their hearts?"

Sloan will call me Jennifer if she can't get a response me, and then will say, I call you Jennifer, you call me Pickle.

Sloan has a lot of friends at church and school. Her classmates get very excited to see her after she has been out a few days (which lately has happened a lot since we spent our summer on the road).  She is a natural leader and has other children following her.

Sloan is a little bit rough with her baby sister, but deep down she adores her.  She does act out for attention at times, but we are presently working through some of the issues there some of which has to do with sharing attention with Piper. She has improved in the way she treats her and is doing much better on keeping her fingers out of Piper's eyes and mouth.

Sloan is afraid of alligators, sharks, some small dogs, the dark, sleeping alone, wolves, taking a breath while swimming, floating on her back, and anything else she can think of to get out of going to bed.  We are going through a rebellious phase that we hope doesn't last for the next 20 years!

Speaking of, Sloan is an amazing procrastinator coming up with awesome requests prior to bedtime, such as, needing to give mommy or daddy a hug, a high five, an elbow rub, wanting water, needing a snack, requesting a plate of broccoli, needing to go potty, medicine,  a kiss on her toe, her knee, her elbow, her leg, her arm, to read a book, the fan on, the fan off, a night light, someone to sleep with her, her doll, no not that doll a different one, and so on. It would be humorous if it weren't so exhausting.

There is probably so much more I could say about Sloan, but hopefully I have captured enough in this blog to convey what a darling little girl!

It's hard to remember that she is just a little girl at times. She is so smart, but at the end of the day, she is still our precious and beautiful little girl, whose beauty is only surpassed by her brains, wit, charm, and hopefully love for God she's growing in her heart.

It's amazing how much has changed over this year, especially her hair!

Sweet P: The Second Month

Has another month flown by?

The day after Piper's one month appointment, she rolled over. Multiple times in a row. She has done it dozens of times since and likes to lie on her side.

Today, a day before her two month birthday, Piper went to the doctor. She weighs 15 lbs. and 2.5 ounces and is 24" long! She is a very healthy girl and I think it would be safe to say, is getting an adequate supply of milk.  She wears size 6 and some 9 month clothing and size 3 diapers.

Piper sleeps through the night, an average of 6-8 hours every night since around 6 weeks old.

She has traveled to South Carolina and Virginia, and plans to go to Charleston next week for her first beach trip. She is such a good baby. Doesn't cry much (especially now that we sorted out that anytime I consume milk by-products she screams all afternoon)

Piper has a sweet voice and a beautiful smile. She coos when we talk to her and smiles often. At her doctor's appointment the doctor remarked that she didn't take her eyes off of me.

We went to visit Piper's great grandparents a few weeks ago and she had a great time. She travels well and stays asleep in the car for the most part.
This is my 86 year old grandfather
and below is my 89 year old grandmother (Grandma Sloan)

Piper also loves her big sister Sloan and making funny faces. She likes to talk and coo and even laughs a little bit.  She likes to sit upright and see what is going on.

We think Piper is perfectly adorable and most people stop us and agree! With such nice rolls, smooth skin and a perfectly shaped head, she looks just like a precious baby doll!
