All in a Year

A year ago, I was very pregnant and on bed rest. I was seeing the doctor every single day and being admitted into the hospital more often than not to check on Sloan's progress and my health statistics. My BP was through the roof and I was about as big as the Goodyear Blimp, mostly water retention. I had gained a solid 50 pounds of baby, fat, and water retention, and my skin was moldable like putty - pitting edema they call it. My house was on the market and being shown on a daily basis which meant keeping it picked up and swept after two dogs, two teenaged children and one husband. Not a simple feat for an overly pregnant woman on bed rest.

They say they don't know what causes Pre-clampsia, but i have a good idea that mine was motivated by stress and the extreme summer heat. Though last summer couldn't hold a candle to the 106 record heat wave we had this year with a heat index of 112.  People are shocked at how hot NC can get, even my friends in Texas couldn't believe their temps were a solid 30 degrees lower than ours.

About a year ago, everything was set to change. After being on bedrest and standby for induction ( i was scheduled to be induced but was told to stay close and monitor my BP at all times since it was possible they would bring me in earlier)... Rick sent his children home on a plane, my parents came to town to set up the nursery, we got a call for a showing on Sunday morning, and that evening, we got an offer. Not a day too soon because the very next day, I was scheduled to be induced. And then our lives changed forever. We sold the house, we had a baby, we left the hospital and went house hunting THAT VERY DAY, and then we went home, packed our stuff, and less than six weeks later, we moved across town to bigger and better things that life has in store. None of these things do i recommend to a mother as she leaves the hospital after having a baby and suffering medical complications prior to that.

This past year has been quite challenging but with a challenge comes growth. We believe we are exactly where God wants us to be and doing exactly what God wants us to do. We seek His guidance in ALL of our decisions, even the hard ones that don't make sense, and while they may not make sense, we stand firm to our beliefs and we stand together. When we act according to His purpose, we cannot be led astray. God's timing may not be as swift and instantaneous as our fast paced lives would hope for, but in times of waiting, He is there, still guiding our steps and molding us into who He wants us to be. So rather than asking God "why" we ask "What will you teach me now". This is much easier said than done, and our new marriage has endured a lot more than most endure in the first few years, but these things only make us stronger.

Here we are, almost a year and I am 65 lbs lighter (Rick is at least 20 lbs lighter!), and life for us is a lot less stressful. And the good Lord KNOWS we have to deal with a LOT of stressful situations on an almost daily basis, but the stress is not there.  Sure I have a bigger house to clean, a one year old to care for, and a husband to keep in line, and of course we have our stressful moments and times where we are not sure how we will manage to get through to the next month , but we are growing so much together, and in the same direction, we can certainly handle anything that comes our way. God doesn't call the equipped, he equips those He calls.

10 MONTH Photo Session
Now my sweet girl can give kisses, speak in sentences (with a lot of intermixed babbling), she can nearly walk, climb, dance, sing, laugh, play, smile, feed herself, drink from a cup, attempt to jump, open cabinets, swim,  and play catch with the dog. She does so much more. She can drive her little fire truck, climb and slide down her slide, She brightens up any day. She is so sweet and tender and sassy and more than we could ever wish for or imagine!  Nearly a year as passed, and we know, the best is yet to come.
The past TWO Weeks!

  1. Ooohhhh look how tiny she was in that first picture! I can't believe all the stuff you had going on right when she was born, I don't know how you did it all. What a year you've had!
