A week of firsts

Nothing like an earthquake and a hurricane all in one week to add some excitement to our lives. The earthquake happened on Tuesday afternoon. Sloan and I were shopping at Target and she cried a random cry. I believe she felt it. I did not, though had I been home I most certainly would have. As for hurricane Irene, we lost power for a few hours and the wind blew. We hardly had much rain. I think it was much worst costal and north of here like the flooding in Vermont.

My sister and nephews met Sloan on Sunday for the first time. They were so cute about her but the novelty was short lived and they moved on to other things. Like playing with a stick that lodged behind my sliding door.

When Sloan got hungry they regained interest. How does she eat? From my boobie. What does she eat? It's milk. Wow. That's neat. They proceeded to go to their mother and ask her - mommy can I get milk from your boobie? Since that was a no go, the boys decided to chase each other around and take turns pretending from each other but as one lifted the shirt, the other would come close to the chest and the willing participant would shriek in excitement and hilarity and push him away before he got a chance to try. It was quite entertaining to watch and I was just glad they never asked me to try it bc I was the only one who they might reach with some success. Though I'm sure my lactose intolerant nephews would love to taste some milk that didn't make them sick, I glad we dodged that, but there's always next time. Sloan hasn't learned how to share anyways.

Unfortunately we didn't get very many pics of them as they blazed through raleigh en route Back to New Jersey after a two week long vacation but they promised to return in October once we are a little more settled.

Moving day isn't the most ideal for a visit. I have spent the past week packing up the remainder of my house.

My life had consisted of, feed baby, pack, repeat. I'm exhausted and I am ready to just hold my baby girl. My new house is much too big for our family of three plus dog but we will be working to remedy that over the next few years, hopefully one baby at a time. God Willing.
My father came into town On Sunday too but he stayed until Tuesday. It was the first birthday that i can recall that dad and I spent the day together. Had he not been here im pretty sure I'd not have accomplished the things I needed to do in order to complete the purchase of our new house. Sloan LOVES her grandpa and he is quite smitten with her. First granddaughters are like that I suppose.

Sloan is now adjusting to life inside her first new house as are we. I am busy unpacking and trying to rest and enjoy life at a much slower pace. The trouble with "Sloans" is we have a hard time sitting still- especially when there's work to be done.
I suppose there are worse things in life than a strong work ethic.

One month old!

Sloan and I have been very busy the past few weeks. We are moving on august 29th AND that has kept me beyond busy. My parents were here this past weekend to help us pack and I believe we got about 75% of the work done.

Sunday my good friend Armistead took sloans one month pics. He also took some newborn pics. I'll share some of my favorites.

Monday sloan had her check up. She is now 9 lbs and 22 inches long! Grow baby grow. She is still 100% breast milk fed and she loves it. One month down, 5 to go! Sloan is so long, she is nearly too long for some of her 3 month old stuff.  She only wakes up once in the middle of the night to feed on a typical night and has a pretty good schedule considering all the running around we have done over the past five weeks.

I am so ready to be in the new house and just relax.  unpacking will have to wait. I am beyond exhausted, I think because I have yet to spend more than half a day resting and I am going on negative sleep. Selling a house is a lot of work, as is buying a new one. We have had a few obstacles to overcome along the way but closing day is upon us! only a few more days..

A friend of mine who just had a baby sent me a text asking,
" is it possible to love a person more than this? I don't think so"

My reply:

I imagine it's the closest we can ever come to understanding Gods love for us

Three Weeks old!

Today Sloan is Three Weeks Old!  Our two week wellness appointment went great. She had regained most of her birthweight (she was 7 lbs & 8.5 oz) and she grew 3/4 of an inch. she is in the 60% in height and 25% in weight. Her head is average size.  SHE MAKES a lot of faces...

We were given the green light to eat at will meaning no more round the clock 2-HR feedings and no more bottles.  I want Sloan to be on a schedule but realize it will take some time. Sloan has really gained some weight. She is getting so chubby!

She feeds every 2-3 hours during the day and every 3-4 at night. Last night she went almost 5 hours! The night before, of course, she was up every two hours, so she's still a bit unpredictable but I'm hoping to work on a schedule once we are in the new house. Half my maternity leave will be spent in this house and the other half in the new house.  My in laws have been here for the past week and it has been very nice to have someone to cook and help me clean. They have been quite the blessing to us. The week before, my mother was here. Mom and dad are excited for me to move out of this house so that they can visit us and no longer have little "projects" to work on.  I am excited too! Here is a picture of our new master bathroom... I am so excited to move into this house. I am praying nothing falls through on the sale of my house b/c that is the only thing that would prevent us from moving!

12 weeks of maternity leave seems like a long time but to be honest, it is passing way too quickly.  I only have 9 weeks to go.

Sloan is adorable. She smiles at me often. She smiles while nursing. It is our special time together. She has such wide eyes and has been keeping them open more and more. She also is quite strong for a newborn, already lifting up her head while on her stomach and looking around. She can roll to her side and will pick her head up and move to look the other way. She even scooted a few inches forward the other night which was amazing... She will be crawling before we know it!

We are busy working on repairs to my house to get it sold. I had some structural issues that need addressing which means big $$ BUT once i get it done its done, and i would have to fix it to sell the house anyways, so might as well fix it. It sort of hurts the pocket book but as i said before the new house is move in ready, and has been well maintained and recently updated so there is very little left for me to do but move in, unpack and enjoy!

i've lost about 25 pounds of my pregnancy weight and my feet look normal. My fingertips are still numb but i'm either used to it, or they feel a little closer to normal. I'm hoping they feel like fingers again before long. it is frustrating to touch my daughters skin and feel the pins and needles rather than the softness.

She is still a pretty good baby with very little crying. We love our new little family and feel very blessed to have such an amazing creation join us on this journey.

Happy Birthday Don Beeman!

My father in law is 74 today...
Last year at this time we were all together in California. I think he LOVED having his whole family there, with the exception of one son in law who wasn't able to make the trip.  Someone thought this picture was photoshopped to get all these beautiful people together into one picture, but that just isn't true. I think Rita and Don has this hanging in their house somewhere. Notice how the Falwells are in blue, the Moylans are in Green, and the Beemans are in yellow (and of course the two that made it all possble are in Orange) Aren't we all just one big family?

This year, Don and Rita are traveling to Cary NC to meet their little granddaughter.
Sloan is super excited... She even has the matching socks to prove it. :)
