29 WEEKS!

The countdown is really flying!
Can you believe it! only 11 more weeks? That is AWESOME. And this summer will really fly by. I know its not officially summer, but to me, this coming weekend IS the start of summer! My stepsons will be at our house for six weeks and we are really looking forward to the time we will get to spend with them.

SIZE of Miss Beeman:
Butternut- Squash.... She now weighs between 2 1/2 to 3 pounds and is 15 to 17 inches long from head to heel. Her muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and her head is growing bigger to make room for her developing brain.

Biggest challenges:
Breathing. Paying attention. Remembering things. Getting comfortable especially MY FEET!
Cravings:
Olives. Avacado. Sushi.

Gender:
Baby girl named Sloan Violet!

Movement:
TONS! She will sleep all day as my movements rock her to sleep but in the mornings and in the evenings she is very active. Today at the chiropractor, i watched my stomach bounce as i waited. Its pretty freaky looking.

Sleep:
I am so tired that i am sleeping BUT i wake up sporadically b/c my arm is asleep. My shoulders are not taking this pregnancy too well. I actually think I went all night without going to the bathroom!

What I Miss
Raw Salmon on a weekly basis. Diving head first into bed. Sleeping on my stomach. Energy. My shoes with heels.

What i LOVE
The compliments and conversations I have with strangers. Mom and dad will tell you, I have never met a stranger. It really is true and that is a lot of the culture here in the South East.  Rick is starting to get used to it and I think he likes it here.
I love how nobody is a stranger to a pregnant woman. They all have comments and advice, both good and bad though i'm mostly hearing the good ones. Negative advice - things like people telling me HOW i should have the baby or what not. I mean you have one or two kids and suddenly you are an expert at telling someone else how it should be done. I just listen patiently and smile. I don't need to argue the research i've done and the choices I've elected to make, assuming all goes according to plan (which I also realize that nothing may go according to plan and thus my birth plan will be a guideline so that I will not beat myself up if I end up deviating).

Maternity Clothes:
Today I am wearing all non-maternity clothes, and actually my baby bump is pretty incognito today. If you ask me, you can hardly tell there is one, but that is because i'm comparing it to how i looked yesterday (in a bikini at the pool)

Emotions
I feel great. I am very emotional, but happy emotions. And I am so excited to hold my daughter in my arms. I feel her so much now and can even feel her hands and feet when she punches and kicks, i am ready to love her in my arms.

Milestone
I wore some tall wedge sandals last week to a conference and MY.FEET.SUFFERED.  I think the blood rushing to my toes AND cramming them into the shoe made them so swollen. My feet hurt for 2 days, but i remedied that with two steps. 1. I got a massage.  and 2. I went to the pool (in my regular bikini!) And p.s. not to sound cocky or anything but i think for 7 months pregnant i look pretty darn good! My belly sure is tan!

Week 28

Welcome to the THIRD TRIMESTER:
This should come with a warning: "BEWARE" you will be encountering increased discomfort, even MORE frequent urination, and you will begin to grow at insurmountable rates!

SIZE of Miss Beeman:
The size of a Chinese Cabbage. Funny, this looks like Romaine Lettuce, only not as dark green but whatever..... Chinese Cabbage it is! She measures approximately 17 inches from the top of her head
to her heels and weighs about 2.9 lbs! She can blink her eyes, which
now sport lashes. With her eyesight developing, she may be able to see the light that filters in through the womb. She's also developing billions of neurons in her brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world.
[28-chinese-cabbage.jpeg]

Biggest challenges:
Sitting in *some* booths. Keeping my eyes open for the 11 o'clock news. Raging Hormones that have me sad one minute and furious the next. Mostly I'm still pretty happy.

Cravings:
Healthy Food and lemonade. Last night i wanted Smoked Gouda Cheese - YUM! A few nights before I went to bed with a bowl of green olives.

Gender:
Baby girl named Sloan Violet!

Movement:
OMG does she MOVE. Rick really felt her kick the other night. He may or may not have felt her before but i think he got a good heel kick because my entire stomach met his hand, almost like a high five. I think Sloan is head down (confirmed by a mid-wife's apprentice) and i swear she is taking her fists and simultaneously punching in my lower abdomen. I have both sides going at once. I was feeling her a ton last week and then she slept for a few days and moved only a little bit. I of course freaked out and told Rick i killed the baby. Rick told me she was fine. And NOW she is back at it again only she must be tons bigger because i feel her so much more. She must be running out of room!

Sleep:
I wake up at least once if not twice a night. Last night i dreamt that she was born on Aug 2nd and weighed 10 lbs. She had five teeth (dear  God please no!) and dimples. She smiled at me and i fell in love with her!  My mother had her children early, i believe my sister had her children early, and i hope to follow suit and have this baby early!

What I Miss
Right now i am really craving a theme park. I want to ride a roller coaster - like NOW.  WE will be going to a water park this summer, which i am really looking forward to, but we don't have too much else planned because i am not sure how i will feel and we are not sure when the house will sell and when we'll be moving. But i really miss riding a roller coaster. There is a park about 11 miles from my parents house that i hope we can go to next year. Mom can babysit.

What i LOVE
I love the way i look and feel most of the time. I actually have some energy right now so i'm taking advantage of it. I love how Sloan responds to my voice. i love how i can REALLY feel her and not just a bump by her but her actually appendages. I love that i'm going to be a real mommy soon.

Maternity Clothes:
Well it is official, i tried to put on an old skirt without an elastic waistband and it did not fit over my hips.. they have officially spread. I do not look that much bigger but apparently they have made room for baby. I am ok with that because it just means i will have an easier time passing her through this birth canal! today my top is from the Juniors department in an XL and is super cute!

Emotions
I feel great.

Milestone
Picked my dogs up from my friends house. I am so glad to have them back. Marley has an ear infection and they are both getting shaved. I am in the process of hiring a trainer to get them in line before the baby comes and we are going on daily walks to keep them worn out. Our goal is to walk about 3 miles every morning, and Rick is running them a few nights a week. They are happy and tired dogs now. They have gained about 4 lbs each while out of town, so we are diligently working on dropping the weight and if i lose a few lbs in the process, i won't be upset. Either way, my legs are toning up already and it won't be long before i feel as though i'm in the best possible shape i could be in for giving birth. Nothing much else to report here, just happy to be healthy!

A girl in our birthing class had HELLP SYNDROME and had to have an emergency C-section. Her baby was a few weeks ahead of us and was 3lbs and 4oz. Both are doing ok from what i hear, but ISN'T THAT SOME SCARY STUFF?? I remember talking to her the day before in our class and she was miserable and her feet were like vienna sausages. She thought it was just being pregnant but apparently it was Pre-E.
I'm praying we make it to the 36 week mark, And so far, so good. I am looking pretty healthy if i do say so myself!

Great, now i'm craving little sausages (i am SO not going to go eat any though yuck!)

WEEK 27

Here's a little side by side comparison. I'm not the best self photographer but i try.
Upper Left 27 weeks  - Upper Right  23 weeks,
Lower Left 21 weeks  - Lower Right 20 weeks,

Size of Miss Beeman:
About 14.5 inches long and the size of a head of Cauliflower and averaging about 2 lbs in weight.
From a Website:
She's sleeping and waking at regular intervals, opening and closing her eyes, and perhaps even sucking her fingers. With more brain tissue developing, your baby's brain is very active now. While her lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with a lot of medical help — if she were to be born now. Chalk up any tiny rhythmic movements you may be feeling to a case of baby hiccups, which may be common from now on. Each episode usually lasts only a few moments, and they don't bother her, so just relax and enjoy the tickle.

Biggest challenges:
I have been having some severe shoulder pain lately and what can i do for it. I think sleeping with my arm over my head is causing it but there isn't anywhere else to put my arm.

Cravings:
Cinnamon Candy. I was looking for a bag of cinnamon discs yesterday but couldn't find any so i had to settle for Hot Tamales. I love them. I eat 2 bowls of raw spinach a day (with avacado, balsamic vinegar and sometimes fresh parm or olives)

Gender:
Baby girl named Sloan Violet!

Movement:
Sporadic. Some days she is my little pinball, sometimes she is just a lazy baby. I wonder if she has flipped. Last week i definitely felt her make two huge movements twice so i'm wondering if she has made her initial approach into her takeoff position. that would be nice.

Sleep:
I need more sleep!

What I Miss

OTC drugs! i miss being able to take sinus medicine without thinking twice about it. I miss sleeping through an entire night. I think these bathroom breaks at 4am are preparing me for nighttime feedings.

What i LOVE
I love the comments from the ladies at work about how cute i look. How small I am. How i don't look like i've only got 13 weeks left. (I feel huge and the numbers on the scale agree) But hey, i have always held my weight well and my massage therapist said that I had good birthing hips and the baby is likely nested between them rather than all out front like a basketball. I'm a pear.  Rick is still amazing. He vacuums and empties the dishwasher. He puts his clothes away. He doesn't make messes. I cook, he cleans.  I hope this remains our "norm". Daily foot massages still!

Maternity Clothes:
Non maternity tops most of the time with maternity jeans and shorts and skirts. I have a few non-maternity skirts and dresses i also wear. I am wearing a regular bikini (with the strings looser on the sides) and i purchased a maternity tankini top for when i get a little bigger. dont' want to scare the kids at the pool.

Emotions
Elated.

Milestone
My first Mothers Day! I received a very nice thoughtful card with a lovely note. Breakfast in bed, a full body massage, and the day was "Jennifer Day" which means i get to do whatever i want. (but in case you didn't know, most every day is jennifer day)

What's in a NAME?

There are a lot of things to consider before naming your baby.
These are the things we chose to think about when considering our selection of a name, in no particular order...
How easy is the name for pronouncing and spelling??
Is it a name where people will constantly ask you to please spell it? If so, you should probably pick another name unless you are just SOLD on the name, BUT you really need to consider this. Replacing an "I" with a "Y" doesn't really change the name does it?? Like naming your child Jennyfer just to make it appear to be different. P.S. the name is STILL jennifer no matter how you spell it,

A shop in DUBAI MALL!
Most people know the traditional spelling of most names, so if you deviate from the "norm" , you might just find yourself spelling out the name OVER and OVER since nobody will get it right.
Or take a name like Raily.. is it pronounced Raleigh? or RayLeigh? or RyLeigh? or WHAT?? You have to be aware that not everyone knows how to pronounce a name BEFORE you pick it. Sure you can make your child unique by giving her a name that is "different" but by changing the spelling, you are merely making it a PITA for the child every year on the first day of school and for the rest of the child's life. People will either butcher the pronunciation or the spelling, so you have to think about it, because this child will grow into an adult and all phone calls, roll calls, job interviews, etc etc. will be marked by telling the person how to pronounce the name... The things i will say that WE THINK ARE OK exceptions are Gaelic spellings like siobahn (read SHA-VONNE). People can get over that because it comes with tradition and such.
How does the name flow with the last name?
This is very important. If you name you child Mary that is nice, but what if your last name is Christmas, as a friend in college Jeff Christmas used to joke - he was looking for a wife named Mary. Do you REALLY want to do that to your child? I knew someone named Jenna Taylor, and if you can't figure that one out that's ok. Someone had to explain it to me, but it really comes out with a nice southern accent. There is a realtor in town named Mike Hunt. Not michael, but Mike. Yup. And then there is Richard Head. Seriously People?! What are you thinking?! It would be like us naming our daughter Honey, Honey Beeman... really? Can i get some Honey Nut Cheerios bc that is what i think of immediately. Or Bumble, not really much of a name, but stranger things have happened. Gotta stay away from Adjectives b/c our last name is sort of a noun. "Bee Man"... Lovely Bee Man. Happy Bee Man.   You get the idea.
So with our name, we have to think the first AND last name through - because even if you throw some middle names in there for effect, NOBODY uses their middle name past the age of one, and then you're stuck with a kid that sounds like a mascot for a box of cereal, or worse, a body part or an infectious disease.
How popular is the name?
I grew up with the most popular name for TWO DECADES!! And i don't think that Jennifer broke away from top 10 for quite some time after that. EVERYONE had my name
In second grade i was Jenny, but then came third grade and Jenny Parker (P. comes before S.) so i defaulted back to Jennifer and it stuck. By the time I got to high school there was Jennifer Anderson, Camerotti, Gessimondo, Huff, Lowe, Parker, Sloan, and that's just the ones that i can remember off the top of my head from the class of 1998. Add in other classes and you have Etskin, Pettit, Bennett, Jennings, Smith, Mann, Burns, Vaughn, and i KNOW there were more, but i'm already exhausted. I HATED my name purely for the fact that i HAD to go by a last initial as well or some variation, so if you think the last name doesn't matter, try having another one of you in you class and sure enough, I was Jennifer S. Then i get to college, and on my college soccer team alone, there were THREE JENNIFERS all with initials JLS. I kid you not! Jennifer Leigh Sloan, Jennifer Lynn S, and Jennifer Leanne S. Of course you can't even go by Jenn at that point so i became a last name and it stuck. Even before college, people called me Sloan and i LOVED it. BY my junior and senior year, underclassmen would come to me and ask, Sloan, what is your last name? Sloan. Oh, so you're Sloan Sloan. Yup, genius. But i'm getting ahead of myself.

Now don't get me wrong, i'm glad i wasn't named OLGA or BERTHA (no offense to those of you with these names), in those respects, Jennifer is quite the lovely name and some names are classic, like Elizabeth or Catherine, but they are still not chart toppers so they are safe if we were to go that route.
SO WHAT does that LEAVE US WITH?
Our goal in naming our daughter is to pick a name that isn't super wacky, BUT that is unique and not in the top 100. (a current trend is naming baby girls Heaven or Nevaeh - which is Heaven backwards). Or naming her UNIQUE. I kid you not!
I have checked the baby naming polls, some do not even have the name we picked, and some have it closer to the 1000 mark making it a safe choice for our child. NOW don't get me wrong, if the name spikes in the next few years she could be screwed and that's the breaks, but unless a celebrity has a baby girl and chooses the same name, I think we are going to be ok. We have picked a name that means something to us, and both sides of our families LOVE the name. And how often can you please both YOUR parents and HIS parents???

Which leads me to
What did we decide ??
This all goes back to my college years. I LOVED my nickname in college and I always said, if i have a daughter I would give her the name. I have a LOT of cousins, but only 5 of us were born to the same last name. I do have a cousin who hinted that she would use this name if she were to have a daughter and my sister said something similar. So for the past four years, I have suffered and prayed through FIVE births hoping they would all be boys so that I could keep my wishes and use this special name... (i would refuse to use the same first name as a cousin or sibling). But sure enough, they all had boys!! And then comes the time i found out i was pregnant. Based on timing - I was fairly certain that we would have a girl, but really didn't want to get my hopes up so i convinced myself it was a boy. I sure am glad I was wrong! We are very excited for
VIOLET
BEEMAN

to join us this summer!!

Now i am quite certain the name we have picked will be HER name and will not change, after all, i already purchased wooden letters for her nursery!  Sometimes, you WILL see Sloan spelled with an "e", such as Ferris Bueller's Girlfriend, Sloane Peterson... (one of my FAVORITE movies!) But it is a family name, it's not hard to pronounce, AND it's NOT very common. Plus if you have been to London and know anything about the posh area around Sloane Square (a big hang out spot for the late Lady Di) you will know, only the super wealthy can afford to add the "E" and we don't want our daughter taking life for granted.
People do tell me NOT to share my baby name because you will catch criticism IF you share the name BEFORE you have the baby, but if you wait until after the baby is born what really is there to say? I DARE anyone criticise a newborn babys name!! And I think Sloan Violet Beeman is a beautiful name, even if i am a bit biased

Also, some people say the baby sort of named itself, like you pick a name and then the baby comes out looking like a "Ralph" or a "Agatha" or something,  rather than the name you have selected.... BUT  that leads me to my final conclusion,
DON'T ALL BABIES LOOK LIKE WINSTON CHURCHILL??

Pinball

So i blog about how this baby girl is all quiet during the day and as soon as I post the blog - she wakes up.
Its as though the second i hit the PUBLISH POST button, she came alive. I mean really alive. I am now calling her the human pinball which makes me the pinball machine!

The last two days have been quite entertaining. She was bouncing around from every angle. I felt her body flip over at least twice because she is running out of room so it is very easy to feel her entire body flip over. It almost makes me jump and it definitely startles me.

We are interviewing for our summer intern position right now and during the interview yesterday I had so much trouble paying attention, my stomach was bouncing in all directions. It is pretty cool to watch but VERY distracting.

I plan to post a blog, sometime this weekend, about our plans for the NAMING of this pinball bouncing around inside of me.... We are pretty sure about our name and I think we are ready to share with the world. Excited?

26 Weeks!

26 weeks down !
I can't believe i only have 14 weeks to go! SWEET!

Size of Mrs j. Beeman:

I really grew the past week. This was taken on Friday evening AFTER a huge meal at the cheesecake factory! Rick and i like to treat ourselves every now and again. For the most part, I cook dinner at home and we eat as a family. We are practicing good habits now so that when our daughter joins us we will be accustomed to eating at home at the dinner table. RICK loves to use the grill so i take full advantage of this and have him prepare a lot of our dinners outside. i do the prep work  and he does the actual cooking. I think grilled vegetables are amazing and he doesn't mind them either. I need to take a video of the frownie face he makes while eating his veggies. He then remarks how it wasn't that bad. But RAW SPINACH? my husband frowns at grilled zucchini but will eagerly eat a raw spinach salad with nothing more than Balsamic Vinegar for dressing? Weird but I won't complain. He eats it.

Size of little miss Beeman:
About 14 inches long and the size of an English Hothouse Cucumber and averaging about 2 lbs in weight.
Biggest challenges:
Still climbing stairs. BENDING OVER! Holding my bladder for more than an hour. Laying off the sugar!

Cravings:
Crunchy food, so i've been eating a lot of carrots and apples. Hard Boiled Eggs, Like clockwork i eat 2 almost every morning. The ladies in the cafeteria of my building are doing a great job making sure that they have them prepared for me every morning.

Gender: Still a girl! Since I went to the doctor on  Tuesday, here are the Baby Stats: Heartbeat 146.

Movement:
She moves a lot when i'm sleeping and sleeps when i'm awake. I think my movements during the day rock her to sleep. Rick and I took a spin class together yesterday and I didn't feel her the entire time but her weight was quite obvious and I found myself leaning forward quite a bit to keep her off my spine.
My best friend just had a beautiful little girl and says she has a vampire baby, up all night.  I wonder if my daughter will be a night owl?

Sleep:
I am sleeping well and because I am so tired, i have had no trouble falling asleep. Rick has been working out more and his snoring is becoming less though it comes back in spurts. If only it would go away forever! I do wake up every morning with numbness in my foot and hip. I think the baby is sleeping on my Sciatic Nerve. good news is that the feeling comes back as soon as i wake up. I always lie in bed until i get a good morning kick.

What I Miss
I miss international travel! Fortunately i had my one trip back from Dubai in January, so for 2011 i was overseas. I am trying to plan a trip for next year or the next to Western Europe. I really want to go back to Paris and then head to Nice, and down to Italy and Greece. I am working on the plan now.

What i LOVE
I love nesting! i love how organized my house is! i love how amazing my husband is to me and how much fun we are having waiting for this baby and watching me grow.

Maternity Clothes:
Maybe TMI but i went bra shopping! The girls needed a new house to rest in during the day and boy did they grow! ;)

Emotions: I am pretty dang happy!

Milestone
I took my gestational diabetes test and i do not have it! yay for me!
